Cinema provides escapism, a chance to get lost in a story, to be taken to far away lands, be touched by fear, by love, by painful situations. It provides a safe space for people from the outside world, a social space for those meeting with friends and somewhere to catch forty winks in a dark room if you so wish. The news this week that Cineworld will be temporarily closing its operations from Thursday and Odeon closing some venues during the week came as a blow and it is easy to assume that nothing is coming out. That is not the case.
