UK Festival Release: I’m An Electric Lampshade

Holy Moly Productions is thrilled to announce that their surreal documentary-narrative, I’m An Electric Lampshade will be screening at three UK Film Festivals this June. 

Following a successful US debut at Cinequest, the film will have it’s UK Premiere on 18th June at Barnes Film Festival, followed by a screening at The Romford Film Festival on 24th June. The film has also been nominated for Best Post-Production and Best Feature Of The Festival at Ignite Film Festival where it will be screening at their festival between 29th June – 3rd July.  

Directed by John Clayton Doyle, I’m An Electric Lampshade is a joyous, heart-warming and offbeat docu-narrative adventure starring Doug McCorkle, a buttoned-up, mild mannered corporate accountant who retires at age 60 to become the world’s least likely rock star. Truth is indeed stranger than fiction as Doug puts his marriage, life savings and reputation on the line to chase his lifelong fantasy. An inspiring underdog story about finding your unique voice. I’m An Electric Lampshade is a film that proves it’s never too late to pursue your dreams.

My Heart Can’t Beat Unless You Tell It To is an elevated-genre feature directed by Jonathan Cuartas and starring Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous, First Man), Ingrid Sophie Schram (Phantom Thread) and Owen Campbell (As You Are, The Miseducation of Cameron Post). 

The film follows siblings Dwight (Patrick Fugit) and Jessie (Ingrid Sophie Schram) who put all their energy into keeping their little brother Thomas (Owen Campbell) alive. But he craves human blood.

Mind-bending British thriller Demon celebrates World Premiere @ Cinequest 2021

Demon will be premiering online at the Oscar qualifying 31st Cinequest Film Festival, Cinejoy, from 20th to 30th March 2021.

When an unpaid train fine comes back to haunt him, office worker Ralph flees London to a forest motel where a temporary hideout becomes a nightmarish purgatory, and emerging ghosts of the past force him to confront the loss of his father.

Taking viewers on a winding road that blurs the lines of reality, when one man tries to escape his problems but instead finds himself faced with more anguish.

Demon is the debut feature from director and co-writer George Louis Bartlett and stars Jemma Redgrave (Love & Friendship, Doctor Who), Gary Beadle (Mangrove, Summer of Rockets), David Schaal (A Call to Spy, The Inbetweeners), Rachel Jackson (Beats, The Party’s Just Beginning) and introduces Ryan Walker-Edwards in his first feature role.

UK Blu Ray Release: Meatball Machine

Terracotta Distribution is excited to announce the release of cult hit Meatball Machine on special limited edition Blu-Ray from 12th April. 

Part tragic love story, part body horror, Meatball Machine is an extreme steampunk gorefest that has stood the test of time since its first release. It has since spawned a sequel Meatball Machine: Kodoku

The new Blu-Ray, which will be limited to 2,000 copies, will have a collectors cover featuring specially commissioned artwork. It will also contain an all-new and exclusive interview with the films Director as well as behind the scenes content.

UK VOD Release: The Oak Room

From the distributor that brought you Sator & Disappearance at Clifton Hill, Lightbulb Film Distribution is delighted to share the poster and trailer for a new claustrophobic thriller, The Oak Room, which is coming to Digital Download from April 26.

Following its world premiere at Fantasia, the UK premiere took place at Grimmfest in October.

The Oak Room is a sinister thriller from Black Fawn Films (the team behind I’ll Take Your Dead and Vicious Fun). Directed by Cody Calahan (Let Her Out) the film stars RJ Mitte (Breaking Bad), Peter Outerbridge (V-Wars) and Ari Millen (Orphan Black).

During a raging snowstorm, a drifter (RJ Mitte) offers to settle a debt with a grizzled bartender by telling him a story. The night’s events quickly spiral into a dark tale of deceit, mistaken identity and shocking violence. 
 Commenting on the release, Matthew Kreuzer, Commercial Director at Lightbulb Film Distribution, said: “The Oak Room was one of the highlights of Fantasia last year, and we are thrilled to be bringing this dark thriller to UK, Ireland and ANZ audiences in April. The film is both haunting and disturbing in equal measure and RJ Mitte’s performance is outstanding.

The Oak Room will be released on digital download from April 26 in the UK, from April 27 in Canada (Black Fawn Distribution) and from April 28 (also Lightbulb Film Distribution) in Australia and New Zealand.

The film follows Andrew (Eugene Simon), who, while on a quest to uncover hidden truths about his family history, provides a top-secret agency with his DNA in order to uncover his ancestry.

Andrew soon discovers that his DNA is far from ordinary. He has superhuman powers that he traces back to his grandparents and their involvement in a top-secret government program. On entering the program he finds he’s not alone, joining him are other individuals with superhuman skills. BAFTA: THE 2021 EE RISING STAR AWARD NOMINEES ANNOUNCED

The five nominees for the renowned EE Rising Star Award, now in its 16th year, have been announced as part of a virtual event livestreamed from the elegant setting of The Savoy, London. 

Hosted by BAFTA Chief-Executive Amanda Berry OBE and film broadcaster Edith Bowman, 2014 EE Rising Star nominee George MacKay (1917) announced the highly anticipated nominee shortlist for 2021 via livestream for the first time in the Award’s sixteen-year history.

The British line-up of five nominees have each demonstrated their phenomenal skills in film over the past year, allowing the public and film industry experts alike to escape the every day and explore the world of film. Public voting is now open at ee.co.uk/BAFTA and the winner will be revealed at the EE British Academy Film Awards on April 11th 2021.

The EE Rising Star Award nominees for 2021 are:

BUKKY BAKRAY is a multi-award-nominated actress who received critical acclaim for her debut lead performance in breakout hit Rocks, directed by Sarah Gavron. As well as her nomination for the EE Rising Star Award, she has received nominations from the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) and London Critics Circle, and has been longlisted in BAFTA’s ‘Leading Actress’ category for 2021. She is part of this year’s BAFTA Breakthrough programme and has been named as a rising star to watch by Time Out and Dazed 100. Bukky’s passion for acting continues to grow having completed a year-long course as part of RADA Youth Company. She is currently enrolled on Theatre Peckham’s Originate Acting Course, where young performers receive specialist actor training with top-tier drama schools, Guildhall School and RADA, and industry professionals.

Bukky Bakray commenting on her nomination, said: “I honestly feel so blessed to be recognised so early on in my career. I still can’t believe this, I’m not sure I ever will either. All the warmth and love from BAFTA and EE is beautiful and I’m grateful. Thank you.”

CONRAD KHAN is best known for his highly acclaimed role as Tyler, in Henry Blake’s 2020 feature film, County Lines. A performance that has earnt him a BIFA nomination for ‘Most Promising Newcomer’ as well as Screen International Star of Tomorrow. Conrad’s first role came in 2016 as a young Chris Hemsworth (Eric) in The Huntsman: Winter’s War, and he has most recently been cast as a lead in the final series of the BAFTA award-winning Peaky Blinders, opposite Cillian Murphy and Paul Anderson.  

Conrad Khan, commenting on his nomination, said: “‘A huge thank you to BAFTA for this nomination! I am so excited and proud to be in such great company – the EE Rising Star Award is something I never would have even dreamt of at the start of my career. I am really looking forward to being part of this year’s awards. It is an honour.” 

KINGSLEY BEN-ADIR is the breakout star of Regina’s King’s directorial debut film One Night in Miami and has been making headlines with his captivating portrayal of Malcolm X. The film has received three Golden Globe nominations, with Kingsley picking up the prestigious ‘Breakthrough Actor’ Award at the Gotham Independent Film Awards and the ‘Breakthrough Performer’ by the New York Film Critics (NYFCO). He has also been longlisted in BAFTA’s ‘Leading Actor’ category for 2021. Kingsley’s career started on the stage, in plays including Mark Rylance’s Much Ado About Nothing at The Old Vic. On screen, he most recently starred opposite Zoe Kravitz in the Hulu series High Fidelity; played a co-lead role in the third series of the Brit Marling Netflix series The OA; played Colonel Ben Younger in the BBC/Netflix drama Peaky Blinders; and starred in films The Commuter, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Trespass Against Us. 

Kingsley Ben-Adir, commenting on his nomination, said: It’s an honour to be picked as a BAFTA EE Rising Star. I have always had great respect for this award and have admired the selection each year, so to be in this category, and to be recognised in this way, means a lot. Thank you.”

MORFYDD CLARK has been singled out by critics for her breath-taking performance in Rose Glass’s award-winning debut Saint Maud. Hailed as the ‘Star of Tomorrow’ by Screen International, Morfydd was identified by The Guardian as the ‘Breakout Star’ of the 2019 festival circuit and has gone on to win the London Critic’s Circle Award for ‘British/Irish Actress of the Year’, be nominated for a BIFA award in the category of ‘Best Actress’ and has also been longlisted in BAFTA’s ‘Leading Actress’ category for 2021. Morfydd appeared as both ‘Dora Spenlow’ and ‘Clara Copperfield’ in Armando Iannucci’s The Personal History of David Copperfield, and as ‘young Jane’ in Craig Robert’s Eternal Beauty opposite Sally Hawkins in 2020. She is currently in New Zealand filming a lead role in Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings. 

Morfydd Clark, commenting on her nomination, said: “I’m delighted and disbelieving that I have been nominated for such a prestigious award by BAFTA and the EE Rising Star jury, thank you to all who compiled the list of nominees. I am honoured to be recognised amongst this group of talented, British actors. ṢỌPẸ́ DÌRÍSÙ is quickly establishing himself as an internationally renowned actor, showcasing a range of disciplines across film, television and theatre. Dìrísù can currently be seen on Netflix in Remi Weekes’ horror/thriller, His House, which earned him ‘Critic’s Choice Super’ and BIFA award nominations for ‘Best Actor’, and in the SKY/AMC series, Gangs of London.  Previous film credits include war drama, Sand Castle, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, as well as Ariel Vromen’s sci-fi thriller, Criminal. On television, most notably, Dìrísù was seen in AMC’s Humans and in Netflix’s series, Black Mirror, for which he received the ‘Rising Star Award’ for the Screen Nation Film and Television Awards. He has been selected as a Screen International ‘Star of Tomorrow’ and in 2017 received a Commendation at the Ian Charleson Awards for his performance as Coriolanus at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Ṣọpẹ́ is currently in Ireland shooting a lead role in Mr Malcolm’s List. Upcoming releases include Mothering Sunday with Olivia Colman and Colin Firth, Tim Felhbaum’s Berlinale Special Tides and Silent Night with Kiera Knightley and Matthew Goode.

This year, the EE Rising Star Award jury panel was tasked with selecting the five nominees from a comprehensive list of up-and-coming talented actors and actresses. For the first time in the Award’s history, this took place virtually, where the jury passionately discussed which five longlisted nominees would go head-to-head in the public vote, ahead of the EE BAFTA Film Awards for 2021. 

The jury was chaired by BAFTA Chair and award-winning television producer, Krishnendu Majumdar, producer and director Anand Tucker, actors Naomi Ackie, Jo Hartley and Alicia Vikander, casting directors Leo Davis, Nina Gold and Lucy Bevan, Creative Director Gaylene Gould and other leading industry specialists and entertainment journalists.

UK VOD Release: Red Rage

Saints & Savages has revealed that Red Rage, the explosive British thriller will be released in the UK on 19th April on DVD & Digital Download platforms. Red Rage recently won Best Feature at the Europe Film Festival 2021. 

The film stars a host of British talent including Adam Deacon (Anuvahood), Vas Blackwood (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Ian Reddinton (Highlander) and Steven Berkoff (Octopussy). This will be the third Saints & Savages title with Savvas D. Michael behind the camera, with Original Gangster and Righteous Villains confirmed for UK release on 5th and 12th April respectively.  

The film also reunites a number of the cast with Savvas D. Michael, with Berkoff also starring in Righteous Villains, Blackwood and Reddington in Original Gangster and Deacon in both.

The gritty thriller will also introduce Fernanda Diniz in her first lead role alongside Jack Turner. 

A murderous vigilante couple tear through the city, serving vengeance to dealers of a new designer drug called Red Devil in this nightmarish dystopia where everyone seems high on something. 
 Commenting on the release, Saints and Savages’ CEO, John Pavlakos was delighted with the announcement. He said “It’s fantastic that we’re able to release Red Rage in the UK.
